The Test of Auditory Functioning (TAF) is a criterion-based assessment tool designed for annual administration to children who are deaf or hard of hearing for the purpose of identifying their current level of auditory functioning and cataloging their yearly progress. The TAF includes 19 subtests, scaling the auditory “hierarchy." The current measure reflects “levels of auditory functioning” from discrimination of long versus short stimuli through listening comprehension. Designed for youngsters as young as approximately two years of age and older, the TAF was extensively field tested and indicated the test’s appropriateness for some toddlers through approximately early adolescents. In addition, specific subtests have also been included to specifically evaluate the listening skills and abilities of adults.
